We started out so well Nigeria
We fought against foreign oppression
Setting aside our different tribes
Our different beliefs
We fought until we gained freedom
We got our independence
Now we can stand on our own
Nigeria, my country
What have we to show for this independence?
Three score years and counting
Yet we have nothing to show
We fight our very own
We refuse to settle our differences and live peaceably
The Yoruba man belittles the Hausa Man calling him, "Omo Hausa"
The Fulani Man fights the Plateau Man
The Muslim slaughters the Christian for disregarding Allah whereas the Christian only knows Jesus
When will we realize that we are the cause of our problems?
When will we see that our peace and comfort lies in our hands?
When will we understand that our total freedom is in our love for each other?
Nigeria, my country, you are a sixty year old woman, behave your age, settle your differences, live peaceably.
